Lymphoedema

Lymphoedema is a condition that occurs when the lymphatic system, which helps remove waste and toxins from the body, becomes blocked or damaged, causing a buildup of fluid. This can lead to uncomfortable swelling, often in the arms or legs, making everyday tasks feel harder than they should. Whether lymphoedema is the result of surgery, radiation treatment, or other health conditions, managing it can be a challenge.

That’s where Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage (RLD) comes in. RLD is a relaxing and effective therapy that targets specific reflex points on the feet to stimulate the lymphatic system and encourage fluid drainage. By helping the body’s natural detox process, this technique can reduce swelling and ease the discomfort of lymphoedema.

Kim, our reflexologist says that many clients feel noticeably lighter and more comfortable after an RLD session. It’s a simple, soothing treatment that makes a big difference!

Along with regular reflexology treatments, there are some easy things you can do at home to help manage lymphoedema and support your lymphatic health:

– Move your body. Gentle exercises like walking or stretching can help stimulate lymph flow and reduce swelling.

– Stay hydrated. Drinking water keeps your system flushing out toxins and helps lymph fluid move more freely.

– Dry brushing. Lightly brushing your skin toward your heart before a shower can help stimulate lymphatic drainage.

– Elevate. If you experience swelling, prop up your legs or arms to let gravity assist the lymphatic flow.

– Wear compression garments. These can help prevent fluid buildup and reduce swelling if prescribed by a healthcare professional.

With the right care—both at home and with therapies like RLD—you can manage lymphoedema and feel more at ease.
