Muscle Spasms

Muscle spasms are involuntary contractions of muscles. They can be incredibly painful and can affect almost muscle in the body.

Spasms can be due to overuse and fatigue, but can also occur alongside an injury to the area. For example disc problems in the back can cause the back muscles to spasm.

Treatment will often involve soft tissue work, which feels like massage, or gentle stretching of the area.

Of course, we always like to look for the underlying cause of the problem too, so we would also check what is happening to the joints, ligaments and tendons around the spasm.
