What is Rhythmic Movement Therapy and Kinesiology?
At Ashgrove Clinic in Northamptonshire, we offer Rhythmic Movement Therapy — a gentle, movement-based approach supporting brain development, coordination, and emotional resilience for children and adults.
Rhythmic Movement Therapy (RMT) uses gentle, purposeful movements to support emotional wellbeing and neurological development. By engaging the body’s natural early-life movement patterns, RMT helps the brain and body work together more effectively.
Grounded in neuroscience and developmental psychology, RMT targets retained primitive reflexes — the automatic responses present in infancy that drive early brain maturation. When these reflexes remain active beyond infancy, they can contribute to anxiety, attention issues, learning difficulties, and emotional imbalance.
RMT guides the body through simple, rhythmic movements that stimulate neural pathways and strengthen communication between the brain and body. As a result, clients often experience improved focus, emotional calm, better coordination, and increased resilience to stress.

We use Rhythmic Movement Therapy (RMT) to support patients facing emotional imbalance, developmental delays, anxiety, and trauma-related challenges.
Each session begins with a gentle, personalised assessment to identify unintegrated reflexes or nervous system imbalances. From there, we guide clients through calming, rhythmic movements—often performed lying down or seated—that help restore natural movement patterns and improve brain-body communication.
We often combine RMT with other therapeutic techniques to enhance outcomes. Clients also receive simple, targeted home exercises to maintain progress between sessions. Over time, many experience meaningful changes, including better sleep, improved mood regulation, and a greater sense of calm and control.
