Improve your flexibility and performance

At Ashgrove Clinic in Higham Ferrers, we offer professional sports massage and therapy services to help you alleviate muscle tension and improve flexibility.

If you need help keeping in shape for your sport, or if you need to get those tight muscles to soften, you need an expert in sports therapy or sports massage.

Massage is good for stimulating circulation and helping with muscle tightness. We see a lot of elite athletes in the clinic, but also regular gym-goers and runners who need that extra bit of assistance before and after competitions, or during times of more intense training.

Massage is ideal for overcoming the aches, pains and knots induced by strenuous exercise, or to prepare you for events/competitions.

Sports massage usually consists of a series of deep, or stretching techniques to relieve muscle tension, coupled with other strokes to promote healthy circulation.

We also do massage for non-athletes, so if you’re aching, or if you want a voucher for a massage to use as a gift, just call us. And don’t think of massage as a luxury. If you’ve got pain or discomfort you need to get it sorted.

K Laser

Our sports therapists can also use KLASER treatment to help promote healing in more serious sports injuries.

KLASER is particularly useful for plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis and other running problems.

Jay Sheridan says:

“It’s become fashionable to stretch when injured.  Remember that stretching won’t fix something that has been over-stretched.”

What our  CLIENTS SAY:

“I saw Jay with a calf niggle that had stopped me on a long training run. He was very thorough in taking medical history, and assessing what might be the root cause, and explaining this to me. His treatment of the issue was superb, and I left feeling better than I had in years. Additionally, the follow up exercises are excellent to keep me on track, and very comprehensive.

Highly recommend!”

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens at the first appointment?

On your first visit to us a full  case history will be taken.  We need to know all aspects of your health. We will ask about your previous injuries, surgery, illnesses, and we will want to know if you’re taking any medication.

Unless we need further information about your condition we would normally treat you on your first appointment.

You will normally be asked to undress to your underwear so that we can treat you, but if you don’t feel comfortable undressing, just tell us – we can work around that.  We want you to enjoy your treatment, so tell us what we can do to make that happen.

Jay says:  If you’re a bit nervous about coming why not book a Free Consultation first?  Come and meet us – we won’t put any pressure on you to have treatment.

What should I wear?

It’s really helpful to us if we can see the area of the body that we are treating.   Normally we ask patients to undress to their underwear, but if you want to wear a T-shirt and shorts, or if you just don’t want to get undressed, that’s fine with us.

And you can always bring pair of shorts and T-shirt with you to change into.

Chloe says:  Ladies, please don’t wear a sports bra if you’re coming in for a massage – they cover your spine and we can’t see what’s going on!

How long are the appointments?

Your first massage appointment will be 45 minutes or an hour so that we have time to take the case history. Follow-up appointments vary in length depending on what you need, or whether you are training for an event.  Usually they are about 30 minutes long.

Can I bring somebody with me?

Of course you can!   We are very happy for you to have somebody in the treatment room with you.  We are quite used to families coming together or parents bringing kids with them.

Incidentally, if we are treating children under the age of 16 we insist that a parent or guardian accompany them.  We also ask that if you’re bringing any children under the age of 16 that they join you in the treatment room and are not left to sit in the waiting room unaccompanied by an adult.

Most patients really enjoy treatment, have a look at our testimonials if you need reassurance.

Can I claim on my insurance?

If you’re not sure whether you can claim or not, you must check with your insurance company.  Our massage therapists aren’t physiotherapists so make sure you specify that you’re asking for sports massage, not physiotherapy!

You also need to check whether you need a GP referral before coming to us.  Most insurance companies don’t require a GP referral, but some do.

Once you’ve got the Ok from your insurance company we ask that you pay us after each appointment and then claim the money back from your insurance company yourself.
