Not every injury happens on a sports field — and at Ashgrove Health Clinic, we’ve seen (and treated) our fair share of unusual injuries with expert, effective care.
Strange But True: Unusual Injuries We’ve Treated (And Why the Cause Doesn’t Matter)
At Ashgrove Health Clinic, we treat injuries of all shapes and sizes — and while the pain of an injury is never funny, sometimes the story behind it is.
Over the years, many of our patients have struggled to describe how their injury happened… mostly because they were laughing too much. Here are just a few real-life examples that caused both pain and giggles:
Some of Our Favourite “Interesting Injuries”
Ankle sprain from slipping on a puddle of chocolate
“Turkey back” — strained lifting the Christmas dinner from the oven
Cruciate ligament injury (yes, that’s knee pain) after being headbutted by a frisky ram
Shoulder strain from being yanked by a backward-running horse
Overuse shoulder injury from excessive mucking out
Back pain from… ahem, vigorous nocturnal aerobics
Tripping over the dog
Yes, these are genuine. No, we didn’t make them up.
Does the Cause of the Injury Matter?
Here’s the truth: your body doesn’t care whether the injury came from rugby or a rogue turkey. Pain is pain, and your muscles, joints, or ligaments respond the same way — whether the trigger was a tightrope or a treadmill.
Sure, knowing how the injury occurred helps us understand the mechanism of injury, but our main priority is helping you recover. Whether it’s a sprain, strain, or more complex soft tissue damage, your treatment plan is tailored to your lifestyle, goals, and recovery timeline — not how you got hurt.
A Personalised Approach to Recovery
For example, if you’re training for a marathon and sprain your knee, we’ll design your rehab around your training demands. But if your schedule is packed with deadlines and stress, we might slow the pace to fit rehab around your life — not the other way around.
(Though if nocturnal aerobics was the cause, we may gently suggest a temporary break from that particular activity!)
Whatever the cause, however strange it may be — we’ve probably seen it before. And if we haven’t, we’ll still help you recover.
